Jeremy didn't make it as he had other things on. Henry and Craig turned up late, so we had a late start and most of us were tired from one thing or another (work, PC gaming), etc.
Characters:
Henry played Franz Gebhard "The Good"
Craig played Billy Dalton "The Ugly"
Justin played Jack Thompson "The Ugly"
Luke played Smokey Pete "The Bad"
NPC (Jeremy) Doc Giggles "The Ugly"
RECAP:
The morning dawned with two of the group in jail and three resting comfortably in the Golden Sally. But there was to be no trial for murder as a mysterious eye witness had corroborated the claim that the killing was enacted in self-defense.
After regrouping in the Golden Sally for breakfast, the group decided that to find Big Bill Blakely, they would investigate his old employers, McMahon & Wilson. $2000 was a lot of money, and if Big Bill was somewhere in the vicinity of Sanctuary, they were determined to find him and bring him in, as the poster said "Dead or Alive", with dead being the preferred method.
At the camp for the mine, Jack played on the greed of some of the more affluent mining management as well as his own to setup a game of cards, hoping that it might help to set tongues wagging. Smokey Pete joined in, and soon found out that the stakes were a little higher than he'd have liked. Jack came out ahead, Smokey was left bereft of any money and the group had found out that Big Bill had a woman nearby. Her name was Amelia, and she operated a farm with a green roof. The farm was known to the group, and they left to go visit it.
At the farm, the group waited back within rifle shot as Smokey approached by himself. As he got close to the farmstead, one of the windows opened a fraction and a rifle barrel poked out. A quick discussion was had with Smokey being warned away. A single rifle shot as a warning preceded his retreat.
The whole group then approached, Jack started by telling Amelia that a Marshall was after Bill for murder and armed robbery. She said that Big Bill was no longer wanted around here and that she had not seen him for some time before she told them all to leave. Suspicions were roused and the group decided to wait til night fall to head back in and investigate.
As they sneaked back into the farm at night, leaving Doc Giggles to mind the horses, the group decided to head into the barn and investigate. The barn though seemed only full of animals for the night. As they investigated further, the doors to the barn were shut behind them, and the sound of a lock and bolt being slid into place.
Panic set in momentarily. The group tried to get into the hay loft and then from there Franz tried to get onto the roof as Jack tried to drop to the ground. Smokey was contemplating using dynamite to blow the doors but Billy advised him not too.
Three men had barred the doors, and a quick gunfight occurred as Franz, now on the roof, opened up with his rifle on the unsuspecting trio. Jack opened up with his sixshooter and though there was brief return fire, all three of the men went down and the barn unlocked from the outside.
The gunfight had roused the inhabitants of the barn, and after a quick discussion with them, the group left. The three men had nothing on them to indicate who they were. And the bodies were left where they lay, though the weapons and cash were obviously appropriated.
The group then returned to their horses, only to find Doc on his knees with Big Bill holding a shotgun to his head. A revolver was in the other meaty fist of the wanted man, aimed at the group. "I'm not the man you're after", he said, and "if you let me go, I'll tell you where you can find $100,000."
Bill said that the Marshall was after him because of what he knew, and that the money had been stolen and hidden in a cave perhaps a weeks ride away. Bill wouldn't tell where the money was hidden, but alluded to the fact that something else must be there other than simple cash for the wanted poster to read "Dead or Alive". Bill would only tell Doc where the money was, after he took Doc and left with him, to make sure that he was safe. The group didn't like it, but they had no other option.
Quietly, they left Doc to Bill.
