RECAP:
The group began to explore further.  They had lost a couple of their allies but stoically continued.

A bedroom was found with a large bed central to the room, a small alcove off the room was protected by a portcullis that was raised by a lever and near the lever on a small peg was an ornate though worn woman's hat.  The hat was worn by Hawt Pantz, but nothing happened.  When Molly threw one of her copper coins into the alcove, expecting to see a teleportation effect she was disappointed to see nothing.  Some unguents were found as was a small vial of perfume.  Ever the one to try to adorn herself with more feminine things, Hawt Pantz tried some of that as well.  It made her smell all the sweeter, and the males in the party seemed to be more interested in her than they had previously been.

Continuing to explore, the group came upon another bedroom, adorned with many pillows and cushions, but still nothing and nobody.  Til finally, they came upon a large room.  In the middle was a large statue of a fat man sitting cross legged, his mouth agape and pointed to the ceiling.  Underneath him was a plaque stating "I judge by taste".  The group, paranoid about Gelatinous Cubes and Living Statues began a complex and intriguing methodology to test if the room was empty of threats.  It was, much to everyone's delight.

Pouring a bottle of the Purple Grapemash into the mouth of the statue opened a portcullis, and the group went through, finding a teleport maze that they struggled to navigate.  Indeed, the group found themselves teleported into a large arena, facing down five Orcs.  Battle was met, and though the orcs managed a few blows, they were dispatched relatively easily.

The arena was then searched, including the bleachers, but nothing could be found, including an entrance or exit.  Finally, the group headed for the far end of the arena, where there was a dais that they discovered was a teleporter.

They found themselves back in the room with the statue and the plaque.  All portcullises were closed again.  Lamenting the fact that they could not traverse the maze without some kind of code, Molly suddenly realized that the bottle of wine indeed seemed to have a code on it.  Armed with this information, the group were able to traverse the maze successfully.

They appeared in another part of the tower, a small alcove that opened up into a larger room with an obelisk in it.  The obelisk they soon found out, could speak and offered to answer 3 questions.  Unfortunately, Jimmy asked a number of quick fire questions that were generally not of much help other than to indicate that the door to the south led to the Earth Temple and the one to the north was the FireTemple.  The Obelisk did not speak again.

In the Earth Temple to the south, the group discovered one of the witches, the one inhabiting Merisa's body.  She was with two skeletons and a panther.  In the battle, Jimmy was torn apart by the panther before Molly was able to save him with a well placed web.  The skeletons destroyed, the Merisa-Witch cast a spell and turned invisible, squeezing through a hole in the wall behind the altar.  Hawt Pantz was unble to save Jimmy, the thief dead before she could get to him.

Trying to chase the Merisa-Witch, the group followed a faint blood trail to a room with 4 dragon statues.  Three larger statues surrounded a smaller one, and of the three, two had blue glowing eyes and the third had red glowing eyes that pulsed.  The blood trail left to an alcove to the north.  The smaller statue was missing an eye.  As the group were investigating the room, now given to not chasing the witch immediately, Hawt Pantz rushed forth as soon as she crossed the threshold.  Raising her hand she touched the statue with the red glowing eyes and suddenly the glow turned blue.

"She's posessed" claimed Happy.  And the debate raged back and forth as Hawt Pantz tried to claim that no, she wasn't.  Still, she had her weapon taken away and she was gagged and bound.  "Just as a precaution" claimed Molly.  Happy wanted to kill Hawt Pantz, arguing that the colour of the eye changed when she was possessed.  Hawt Pantz argued that the Obelisk would hold the answer, and the group agreed to head back there.

As they entered the room with the Obelisk, a large shadow moved from one of the teleport alcoves.  An Ogre!  In its train was a chained human.  The battle was joined, and in midst of the encounter, the Ogre's club smashed into the obelisk and damaged it.  Finally, the Ogre was defeated and the human prisoner that he had was freed.  He introduced himself as Jack Fowler.  He had been a merchant caravan guard that was passing nearby and had been taken prisoner when the caravan was overrun.  With his previous employer dead and owing a debt of gratitude and honour to the group, he re-equipped from the spoils the Ogre was carrying and pledged to aid the group finish their task.

During the fight, Hawt Pantz had been released, the group now deciding that she could probably be trusted (with one or two consistent and constant dissenters).  Most of the group started heading back to the room with the dragon statues.  Molly began to investigate them again, and when she placed her hand in a special hollow of one of the statues, she was able to communicate with the spirit of the elf-woman Sylva.  Sylva claimed that she was in great pain and pleaded for Molly to help her.  Molly pledged to help however she could, and after informing the party of Sylva's request Happy asked if Hawt Pantz's soul was in the statue she touched.

Indeed she was.  Hawt Pantz had been possessed and her soul transferred with that of the witch.  But Hawt Pantz was not with the group.  She had stayed behind in the room with the obelisk, and now they did not know where she was.  Molly said that Hawt Pantz had demanded to be freed and that none of the fighters were to cut off any piece of her body.

They rushed back to the obelisk.  But the witch inhabiting Hawt Pantz's body was long gone though her armour and equipment lay cast aside.

Now, rushing against time to stop the witches from gaining control of the Black Opal as well as trying to save their friend, the group continued searching, finding a teleporter that lead back to the treasure room.  Still searching for a way to find their quarry, more teleporters were followed until at last they came to a room where the Black Opal hung from the ceiling overhead.

Guarding the room were half a dozen skeleton warriors and in a room beyond could be seen the Witch-Hawt Pantz, the Witch-Merisa and the Witch-Sylva with two hobgoblin bodyguards.

As the two sides met, Happy went down to a spell and would remain out of action for the entire fight and a long time after.  It was a brutal encounter, especially without the aid of the cleric.  However, in the end the heroes survived and triumphed, forcing all three witches to flee and destroying the undead and slaying the skeletons.  Molly was reduced to throwing flaming oil and the toll was steep.

Molly and Baik retrieved the Black Opal, and armed with knowledge that flooded into her thoughts from the device, Molly set about completing the ritual that Elyas had begun centuries earlier, thankful that the Witch-Hawt Pantz had cast aside her equipment unaware of what it contained, for one of the key gems was carried by the cleric.

The ritual completed, the spirits of the witches were dragged back into the statues and sealed forever, and those trapped innocents were set free to return to their bodies.  If that victory was not enough, the bodies of those that had been magically transformed into precious metal statues were returned to flesh and blood.  Friends and allies thought lost were returned and reunited with their companions.

Welcome Returns Selanthia

Welcome Returns Raggard

The group, now assembled and with the Elven maidens found wandering aimlessly in the upper levels of the temple, returned to the Elven village as heroes where they were showered with reward, praise and offered the undying gratitude of everyone there.
